So today we had to go through a huge pile of paperwork, just to make sure what we had both decided was correct. I can't remember how many times I have been through this paperwork now, but sitting down with Harriet, I don't want to give her real name, has allowed me to look at everything from somebody elses point of view. Harriet is independent , and as such, she is giving independent advice and not looking at it from any point of view. She spent the weekend looking at all the information I had given her, from beginning to end, reading it. I wanted her to come up with her own conclusions, and then tell me, with no prompting from myself. So today was D Day, was she going to agree with me, the points I have considered and point me in the same direction, as I wanted to go in.
I arrived at Minds offices on The Avenue early, as ever. Every appointment I attend, I turn up early. It's the way I was always bought up, it is polite and courteous to do so, especially when someone is doing you a great service for free. Harriett said she had looked at the paperwork I had provided and come up with conclusions. I am not printing those conclusions on this blog now, but just wanted to say, they were not a million miles away from mine, in fact they even went further, so I know I have an organisation working for me, who are on my side, unusual I know and a plesent change.
We spent the next hour and a half going through the nitty gritty of what to do and say and compared it to the relevant legislation and you know what, I was damn well right, as I always have been. I am not bloody stupid and never have been, but as I said to Harriet, when you are told often enough that you are wrong, you start to believe it. I suppose in a way it is a form of abuse in itself, Harriet agreed!
I must at this point mention 'Solent Mind' again. Wow, what an organisation, they have truly amazed me. Harriet is a paid Advocate and Mentor, a bit like the job I trained to do at 'Action for Children'. I trained to mentor young kids who needed help, at various stages in their lives. Harriet was doing the job I trained to do, four years ago and she is good at it too. 'Solent Mind' offer an invaluable service to people across our region, and I just can't fault them. Locally based charities are the hubs of our communities and we should as local residents, support them as much as we can. At this point. I offered my services to Mind and they were delighted to accept, after I have got this stress from around my neck.
We had a cup of tea, the life blood of charities everywhere and discussed things at length, as well as what I felt was really going on. I spoke candidly, as I always do. I have nothing to loose any more, and as my blog always states, I tell the truth. The truth is important to people like me, because there has been so much lying in the past.
I will see Harriet on Friday and lets see what happens.
If you do have a mental health issue that requires advocacy, do contact 'Mind', they are a fabulous charity, just the sort of organisation, we should all support!
Peace and Love Always!
